Soo.. I've been playing DoA for a bit casually. Recently I've been watching streams of higher level play and want to get more into it. I have a question that is confusing me a bit and that is: Is free canceling legit? I watch a high level DoA player who's always complaining about it, but then I hear two other high level players saying that it's legit. Can someone please explain to me how it is not legit and how it could be.. am I making any sense here?

2 PS4 systems - shared account - dlc issue

Hi everyone. Long-time reader, first time posting.

We play PvP online using 2 ps4's in the same house, under the same account. Everything works as it should with the exception of dlc on the secondary unit.
Main account can select from all dlc. Secondary can see and select dlc, but always appears as default during match. Any ideas?

so what's your favorite combos for your main? I normally play Marie Rose, and I like using up triangle, right circle, then up p+k, I also like diagonal down left+ p+k, and while in the middle of that move hit circle, then mash circle again, then go into up p+k.

Something that's been on my mind for awhile is things for certain characters that don't make sense.

So in example, I'll use Jann Lee 3K and Standing K.

This issue was more present in DOA4 when his 3K sat down on any hit level beyond NH but it's come again with Team Ninja's wild idea to make it sit down on crouching opponents.

Looking at the mix ups off of it he has a tracking high kick, a linear mid kick and a tracking mid punch. The issue is that while 3KK (The high) may not be the most...

GENERAL STATUSES OVERVIEW:
Before we begin, we're going to list several move properties.

These are all the statuses shown by the in-game move details window along with their internal IDs.
0 Standing
1 Crouching

The majority of these mechanics/bugs have existed in every DOA as far as I know. I just wanted to get these out of my head, I don't really expect anyone to sit down and read everything + the references. This is just my boring "wish list" for muh dream DOA5LR patch/DOA6 system changes aimed to the devs, so here we go.

Characters should not be punished with a Counter Hit while Back Dashing, as it discourages spacing.

Hey guys. I recently got DOA5U and I've been trying out the characters. It seems that this game is more offense-oriented than DOA4 (higher launches from low-threshold stuns, more normal hit launchers, more damaging throw damage, longer recovery frames from holds in stun), which is great.

The game intentionally delays the start of your attacks by 1 frame in order to properly add leniency to multi-button moves (such as 2H+P+K aka the Side Step command). But this is not always true. This delay gets "bypassed" in 2 common scenarios:
- the actual attack blocking function (H) activates 1 frame earlier than the blocking animation does, which is why inputting a frame perfect Hold at an incoming attack will Block it instead of Holding it;

Thanks to the release of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, there's been (minor) updates to the Dead or Alive 5 weight classes.

In short, the only change from DOA5 to DOA5U was ALPHA-152 being made the lightest character in the game. She's also the lightest by a far margin. How far? She's roughly launched 40% higher than the difference in launch height between the (now) Super Light and Super Heavy weight class....

Is doa not considered a tournament fighter because of how unbalanced it is?

I mean the fighters are completely unbalanced.

You have characters like ayane who have literally every advantage, her lowest stat is a 3 out of 5. She also constantly gets frame advantages. I watched an ayane fight where her knees where landing hits over another characters full on kicks. I see ayane constantly landing hits that are like 3 feet away from the opponent, wtf? I mean it's not even close yet it still...

This fall animation is different to most other animations in a way that its window for entering techroll is short and if you missed it you can't buffer wake-up, nearly guaranteeing a forcetech with right setup.

Does this animation has a name?

I used to refer to it as "hard knock-down", as I once heard Master said that term - but...

DOA5 has an obscure game-breaking glitch which lets you completely negate the recovery of many moves. I have gathered all the footage scattered around the internet I could find here.

According to @Mr. Wah, Team Ninja is aware of the bug, but even they don't exactly know how it works:

So, what's the best way tpo face your opponent from the back? I know Ayanbe can do her spinny thing, but I was dicking around on the PC version, and got a really cool back attack with Marie Rose, and was wondering about other characters, whats the best way to face the opponent with your back? (It was the move where she pushes off the ground with her hands, and kickes them in the head)

This is always a topic of confusion for people that often gets dismissed because it isn't easily understood. I hope that this post can help you better understand the values behind frame data.

Let's use Akira's :6::6::P: as an example. The data behind this move is: 12(2)23. So what does this mean?
The first number is the start up frames, the parenthesis value is the amount of frames your move is active, and the final number is your recovery frames. Let's break that down using :6::6::P:....
